ICON Project
Inverted Classroom Online
Project number: 2016-1-NO01-KA204-022064
Project website
As active educational institutions, we are constantly searching for new educational tools and instruments to provide a forward-looking teaching. The technological development over the recent years has made knowledge more accessible and has changed the way teaching may be carried out. Among other new pedagogical methods, "inverted classroom" has established itself as an efficient teaching method, particularly in the field of higher education. It is a form of blended learning in which students learn the content of subjects online by watching video lectures, usually at home, and "homework" is done in class where teachers and students are solving problems. The main aim of the ICON project is to introduce teachers from the countries of the partnership to this new and innovative method thus giving them the chance to apply it in their teaching and enhance their professional skills.
The partnership will produce a MOOC containing training resources consisting of 9 videos on the topic “how to record educational videos". This MOOC will focus on equipping teachers with the skills that are necessary in order to follow a well prepared pedagogical framework for the Inverted Classroom methodology. The course will undoubtedly broaden teachers' pedagogical and technical skills.
Moreover, the teaching method Inverted Classroom provides an opportunity for training institutions to adapt their work to the needs of diverse target groups. The learners nowadays represent a diverse range of people in need of education: from independent, hardworking learners, to learners who need significant support to manage with the learning process like refugees, immigrants, unemployed adults/youth, single mothers, etc. The traditional teaching methods are not effective enough when it comes to working with so many different target groups at the same time.
Main activities of the project:
- •Research on the concept of the Inverted Classroom and establishing a common pedagogical framework for this method that will be followed by teachers
- •Production of a MOOC containing training resources consisting of 9 videos on “how to create educational videos” based upon the common pedagogical framework
- •Organization of workshops for teachers from the partner countries during which they will learn how to use the software and equipment necessary for the recording of high-quality educational videos
- •Preparation of own teaching videos by the trainers and implementation of the Inverted Classroom method in their daily work
- •Production of training materials for immigrants both in their mother tongue and in Norwegian
- •Creation of a common blog of the project where all of the produced training materials and videos will be published
