Grundtvig Projects
-
Nikolaj Frederik Severin Grundtvig (1783-1872) was a Danish theologian and pedagogue. He developed the concept of adult education centers. With the development of such schools, adult education was revolutionized and made available to all levels of society for the first time. It is for these reasons that the EU program for promotion of general adult education was named after Grundvtig.
This promotional program was developed with several focus points all made to address the core problems in adult education in Europe:
- - the increasing age of the European population
- - the high number of early school leavers and people without basic qualifications
- - the lack of integration in increasingly multicultural communities
- - the lack of willingness of employed adults to pursue further education
- - the lack of conformance and recognition of further education and certifications
In order to restructure European adult education to be sustainable, the European Union promotes projects that effectively address these problems and develop innovative education solutions. There are numerous ways in which education institutions can take part, e.g, in learning partnerships, as assistants in European countries outside of their own, in workshops or in two year multilateral projects.
Iberika has taken part in two multilateral Grundtvig projects with emphasis on foreign languages. Iberika has developed learning material for Turkish immigrants for the First Steps project. In addition, Iberika has been involved in the creation of innovative classroom and teaching strategies for adult education for the CreMoLe project.
